It is the duty of the Holmes County Consolidated School District to provide education services to all students with a disability which meets their unique needs. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that students with disabilities be provided with a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). The goal of HCCSD is to ensure that a Free and Appropriate Public Education is afforded to all students with a disability by providing educational benefits to students with disabilities in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
The Holmes County Consolidated School District Office of Special Education offers a wide range of programs to meet the individual needs of students. All eligible students from age three to twenty-one are served. Our schools offer programs to students who need extended instructional time in a special education setting. Resource programs, as well as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are offered in all schools. The goal of the office of special education is to provide support to students by utilizing specialized instruction. Prescribed programs for students with disabilities are implemented to keep students in the least restrictive environment with the general education classroom being the ultimate goal.
